Next Door to The Reid House in Browne's Addition

Equipment List - The Reid House

"Renting the equipment for gatherings was costing our clients too much~sometimes more than the rental of the house. If we worked on the same basis~10% of the cost of the item~an evening in the Reid House would cost $50,000! That didn't make sense, and we didn't need the trouble: those rental items don't just disappear at 11PM~sometimes they haunted our porches and lawns for days, you can't just put them away~the rental companies consider that stealing . . . and in our opinion they make lousy ornaments. So we acquired our own for you. That's why the house is so well equipped."

Sleeping Arrangements: five bedrooms; one Queen size four poster bed, three full size beds, two twin beds.

(Sometimes during retreats people use the built-in couches in the main room to provide three more sleeping areas, or they rent Next Door for an additional three sleeping areas. The whole complex can accommodate up to 18 guests. Please ask us if you have need.

Telephone service: Local calls are free and one can use a credit card for long distance. The phone number of the guest line is (509) 838-4667.

Stereo with CD player.
An upright piano~faithfully in tune with itself. . .

The kitchen is set up to cook for a family, or to receive food for a larger gathering from a caterer.

Kitchen Equipment:

Stove, microwave, coffee makers and carafes.
Commercial slide-in, rolling refrigerator.
Two oval chaffing dishes, serving utensils, various baskets, pots and pans.

Plates and such:

A place-setting for 100, including two sizes of plates, water glasses, wine glasses, bowls and coffee cups, knives, forks and spoons

Furniture:

Remember, unless one is planning a coursed, sit-down dinner~where all guests are trapped for the duration ~ people enjoy moving about. Excess furniture just gets in the way. The rule if thumb is to have enough chairs for two-thirds of your guests at a cocktail party. It makes them circulate. If you leave the straight chairs upstairs people will enjoy sitting in the bedrooms and chatting.

Chairs and seating~inside: (seating for roughly 70):

Inside seating upstairs for 30-35: 14 occasional, straight, and rocking chairs ~ plus the beds which people happily sit on.
Inside seating downstairs for 35: 24 occasional, straight and rocking chairs downstairs, and built in seating for nine, plus one teak bench (in the garden during the summer).

Chairs~outside: (seating for roughly 100~but not all in the same place!)

Front porch: 9" Antique bench, antique straight chair, three green resin armchairs, two wicker sofas, two wicker chairs, coffee table and several occasional tables. People also sit happily on the wide, low railings. You do not need more than we have~when people add more there is no room for people!

Upper deck: two resin chairs, (one reclining and one armchair), a teak table with umbrella in the summer.

Movable outside seating: 65 white resin armchairs. These really do stay outside~stored in the carriage house where they should be returned after use.
Two teak benches~the one with the curved back lives in the main hall during the winter.
